Give rules and calculations explicit attention
A sports application contains rules as well as screens. During product definition, identify the supported formats, the information needed for each calculation, and how users should understand the result. Those details should be written clearly enough to review and test.
Changes to recorded information also deserve consideration. A team should decide how the product is expected to behave when an entry is corrected rather than leaving that question until the interface is complete. The same questions apply to any scoring application.
Make the accumulated information useful
Game history, statistics, and player performance extend the product beyond one interaction. The design should help a user understand what the information means within the activity, rather than presenting numbers solely because the application can store them.
This is a general mobile-product principle: data is useful when it supports a question the user actually has. The development team needs to understand that question before choosing how to display the information.
